I was speaking to a friend the other day and they asked me what intuition is? Why do I want to reconnect with it? How do I know if I lost it or if I have it? Wow, this got me thinking about intuition and what it means.

First I went to were all good people who want to know something go, Wikipedia.  Well you would think it would be one easy definition but no, this is what I got Intuition (philosophy), immediate (not inferred) a priori knowledge or experiential belief. Intuition (psychology), acquiring beliefs in ways that bypass ordinary justification.

Next, Uncle Google. My search on intuition came up with no less than 13,500,000 results.  Well I must say I was just a little overwhelmed by this.  I liked the one from the Webster dictionary: “a natural ability or power that makes it possible to know something without any proof or evidence: a feeling that guides a person to act a certain way without fully understanding why.”  In images about intuition I found this quote from Steven jobs:

” Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.  They already somehow know what you truly want to become.”

I then thought it might just be easier to think about myself and my own intuition.  Years ago when my son was about 5 or 6 he lost his DS. At the time he loved playing Pokémon and this was a great loss to him.  We searched and searched for days all over the house and could not l find it, it had simply disappeared.  Then about one week later one morning an image popped into my mind, and I saw the DS in a box in the living room.  I had alreadysearched this box at least 3 times however somehow I knew it was there.  I went over started to remove everything and sure enough at the bottom below some papers sat the DS.  I don’t need to say my son was thrilled.

There was also the time I decided to accept a job because in my logical mind it made great sense however my inner voice was saying no do not do this . There was no logic to the voice, the job was a good one with a good company and there really was no reason not to take it except this inner feeling that I got.  I decided to take the job and it was a disaster.  I knew within the week that I had make a mistake and 3 months later I found myself once again looking for work. That little voice that feeling as Steve Jobs said “That inner voice somehow already knows what you need.”

Now I would love to hear your stories on intuition.  When the first time you realized your intuition was right and your logical brain was off.  Please comment below.
